Born To Be Wild(ish) – A Reblog

I hadn’t been planning on mining the depths of my previous posts again, but this one popped up in Timehop this morning, from a year ago today. Having re-read it, I realised that it reminded me of an important time in my life, when I was balancing teenagers’ love of life, and the freedoms the 1960s gave us, with approaching adulthood. So I thought I’d share it again, for those of you who weren’t around here a year ago.

As I said at the time, the post was a follow up to an earlier one from 2016, Summer of ’69, which became a kind of trilogy when I posted All Right Now in my short lived (but hoping to be restarted) series of #SaturdaySongs. I hope you enjoy this little trip down my memory lane 😊

  1. I agree, it is the best road song ever! Makes me long for the early days of ‘RocknRoll’. Today’s attempts can’t compare! I remember those days of freedom, when my entire life lay before me, and I felt that whatever I did would turn out fine! It took me a few years to learn that life on earth is our opportunity to learn and evolve, and not just about having fun!

    • They really don’t make them like that any more, do they! I guess we all have a leaning towards the music we grew up with, but I think today’s is rubbish by comparison! I learned the life lesson pretty quickly, when my parents separated a few days after my 16th birthday. That was part of what I covered in Summer of ’69, the prequel to this post.

  2. First of all I have to award you the ‘Absolutely Best Title In The Blogosphère Ever’ crown ‘Born to be Wild(ish)’ I adore it! Second, I have read the post and liked it in its original place but I didn’t really like it – I actually loved it. I am not one for rear view mirrors because much of my life has been peppered with humps and bumps and potholes but the sort of rear view you are using on your Lambretta, now that is to be embraced. Looking back to those halcyon days when the world was in our paw and we knew we were part of the revolution, that is to be stored very very safely in the heart and mind and never ever lost as part of our fabric. I really and truly loved this piece of writing Clive and, as an aside, I will welcome the return of your Saturday Songlist xx

    • Thank you, I don’t usually do awards but that is one I’ll gratefully accept! I’m glad you enjoyed the piece. I remember it being one of the more pleasurable to write, and it was a snap decision – though an easy one – to share it again when it came up in my Timehop feed this morning. I will get around to Saturday Songs again: they came to an abrupt halt when I was ill at Christmas, and it is only indolence which has stopped me restarting. I may not do them every week, but I have a wonderfully obscure one in mind for the relaunch xx

      • That’s it … go with the flow don’t be a slave to a self-imposed rhythm. I live by that (though in truth I get frustrated just the same because I feel I’m standing still). I’m glad you accepted the award. It comes with a free coffee/glass of whatever/hug when we eventually meet – maybe at Camber Sands 😉

      • I know what you mean, my health hasn’t been great all year and it feels exactly like life is standing still. Nostalgia aside, there are probably better places than Camber Sands for a meet up – though anywhere would be great if it happens 😊 xx

      • We can if we will. Meet I mean. So we will. I agree Camber Sands is probably not the ideal location. We must plot what is …. and keep looking ahead a little, kind sir – your health will be weighting you like one of those green glass balls in a net that fishermen used to use …. it’s hard but petits pas a petits pas you are moving forwards 🙂 xx
