For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday Jim is inviting us to play a song that made a great album closer, as he tells us in his appropriately titled post, The End. The last time we had this theme, back in December 2023, I played A Day In The Life, from The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album, and I did consider playing it again, but only for a moment. That would, I think, have been cheating, and there are plenty more great songs out there that fit the bill.
So instead I’m going with the closing track of one of my all time favourite albums, whose closing track just happens to be the band’s signature song. It’s an audio only clip, I’m afraid, as I wanted to give you the full length album version, as distinct from the cut down one that was released as a single. You can see the album sleeve above, so you probably already know that my song for today is All Right Now, by Free, the closing track on Fire and Water:
And as this is SLS, and in case you aren’t already word perfect, here are the lyrics:
They had a pretty good turnout, didn’t they, and Andy Fraser was right about this being a good way to close a concert – and an album!
That would be it for today but I’d like to add in a quick plug. Last Thursday I posted the first of my monthly reviews in a new format – with added music – and something seems to have happened to it. I follow my own blog as a check: I am certain that this post never appeared in the WordPress Reader, it wasn’t all that user friendly when it came to leaving likes or comments, and overall views have been considerably lower than normal. So, in case you missed it, here’s another chance to see it:
If you didn’t see that before, I hope you can take a look now. Many thanks if you do!
That’s definitely it for today. Enjoy your Sunday, and I’ll see you again for Tuesday Tunes 🎶

This just never gets old. And we all think we can sing it! But honestly, only Paul Rodgers truly can. Rock at its best.

It is definitely that! Paul Rodgers’ voice is one of the best in rock, in my view.

Your blogging friend, Jim, has some entertaining challenges. I never would have thought of this particular challenge. It seems like I’ve made this comment before, but your musical choice today would have also fit in your instantly recognizable song post you ran before.

Jim does a great job with these, and my blogging week wouldn’t be the same without them. You’re right on the intro – there are so many of them, which is why I keep going back to it!

Great classic rock song. This is the only thing I knew by them until the BBC show Life On Mars. I heard a song that I had to know what it was…it’s called A Little Bit Of Love…loved it and I like many of their songs. That show also introduced me to Atomic Rooster and a few others I knew nothing about.

Life On Mars and the follow up, Ashes To Ashes, were both great and had the most amazing soundtracks, so you did well with them. It was like a pop history of my younger days 😊

🙌Thank you Clive! I was hoping someone would pick this, I almost picked it myself as it’s one of my favourite songs of all time – just magic 🥳🎵

I’m pleased – and glad that we didn’t duplicate each other! This is one of my all time favourites too 👍

Hi Clint, All Right Now is a good song that I have known since childhood – and the live version was awesome.
I checked out the July post you linked – and sure do like that lady Winter Dire Straights song – also. I am not sure what is going on with posts not getting published – it has happened to me too – and some of mine have been going on twice to people’s emails and that annoy me.

They were a superb band, with an all too short span. This is a classic.
Thanks for checking the other one out. Weird things are going on!

yes – and I know part of the weirdness comes with improvements for us – and might also relate to security and big fixes – sigh

I’m never entirely sure of their definition of ‘improvements’ 🤣

Clive I definitely remember this song, but I had no idea who played it. I just remember it was a good rock song with soul. I went through the lyrics and surprisingly guessed them right lol. Am really surprised also it never made it to #1 in the U.S. as it got a lot of airplay back in the day.

I’m glad you remembered it – it’s a piece of classic rock. I think the band were bigger this side of the pond, and it didn’t even make #1 here!

Instantly recognizable. Know every word. Takes me right back to Friday nights when we ran wild.
the bonus is awesome 😎

They didn’t last long but left us a classic. I would have played the bonus one first, but they shortened it like the single!

One of the songs we recognize after the first notes and it’s a definite fan favorite. Any song that makes us sing along like this one does is a winner. Great choice, Clive.

Great song and an even better write up! Great job all around, Clive. I am on my way over to see what your July post was about because you are right, I did not see it in my reader.

Thank on both counts, Jodi, kind of you to say. And thanks for visiting the other one – I knew I was right about its fate!

Wonderful pick Clive. Everyone knows that opening and how many young boys started their guitar playing with that song? Love it ☺️

Thank you, Christine, I’m pleased you like it too. I was good on air guitar with this, almost as good as Paul Kossoff’s solo 🤣
